Interactive Brokers customer reviews

Summary
Reviews are highly polarized. Many users praise the platform’s low fees, global market access, wide feature set and powerful tools—especially for experienced traders who find it reliable and cost-effective. However, a large number of complaints focus on poor customer service: long or no responses to tickets, unhelpful or poorly trained agents, chat and phone support that loop or time out, and lack of escalation. Recurrent operational problems include lengthy deposit holds, partial ACH credits, verification/device issues that lock users out, unexplained account rejections or trading blocks, and difficulty withdrawing funds—sometimes requiring external help or regulatory complaints to resolve. Several reports cite confusing or buggy software and mobile apps, unclear UI elements (e.g., unlabeled currency figures), and misleading portfolio displays. A few users also reported execution or tax-withholding errors and slow remediation. In summary, the broker is praised for cost and functionality by long-term or advanced users, but many customers experience serious friction around onboarding, verification, funding access and support.

If you call the customer service: First the voice mail machine tells you something about fees if you want close a trade?!? Second the ask you to identify? Third they are telling you the help webpage Fourth YOU MUST OPEN A TICKET ON THERE WEBPAGE before you can TALK with somebody!!! Log on: User ID and PW, than 2FA, than message, than a code!!! IB does EVERYTHING that a customer CAN NOT reach them!!!

What is despicable about "Trust" Pilot is that they basically punish whistleblowers and critics by demanding names and phone numbers otherwise they take down your criticism. Very mafia and gangster like tactics. Or did IB initiate this threat to take down my post? Schwab does not make such threats. Interactive Brokers was informed that they are excluding clients who do not have cell phones (which cause brain tumors and give me headaches) required to accept the 2 factor authentication. If they genuinely cared (they did not care at the time I let their customer service know this was a corrupt system that only benefits the ignorant sods who use cell phones. I have a very strong health science background.) Their competitor does not require 2 factor authentication, but charges ridiculously high greedy fees. So both brokerages are not showing that they care about getting clients and nobody is doing anything about these respective problems. Do the owners care? This is callous, foolish, abhorrent, ridiculous and asinine. We used to have an account with IB years ago and they did not require 2 factor authentication back then. If they look their past big customer list in Texas or their phone call logs, they would know who I am. They have done nothing to reach out to me or solve the problem in any way since I tried to open an account again. There is a better way. Does Thomas over there care? Did they tell the owner? Is IB or Trust Pilot to take down my scathing and just criticism? And why are the code cards for security now only available for people with 1 million dollars? IB used to have atrocious or very good customer service years ago when my family had an account, and now they offshore jobs to foreigners who are more civilized and courteous, which says a lot about our country's culture and failure of companies to teach basic professionalism. There is a more intelligent way of doing business than what IB is doing.

During sign up I couldn't get my phone number verified as they don't seem to be able to send text messages. I spoke with support who said basically bad luck, call up someone else. During this process I was timed out for inactivity twice after 5 minutes, whilst using the site... they seem to have poor technical infrastructure and support that doesn't give a damn about new customer. Look elsewhere

I wish I could give less than 1 star. My last review I gave them 1 star but I realized it is still to high for the platform. I have insisted for another 2 weeks on trying to get everything working but its just impossible. The customer support is composed by literally the dumbest people they could find on earth. They will keep asking you non related questions instead of providing solution. This is literally a mission impossible. DO NOT USE UNDER ANY CIRCUNSTANCE OR YOU WILL HAVE AN ABSURD AMOUNT OF PROBLEMS.

Not only is it a pain in the butt just to log in but the screen is so ridiculous it's difficult to find anything. It also takes forever just to place a trade. I have used Fidelity and Robinhood and they are both much simpler. It's simply over engineered.

It's super bureaucratic, the money sits there for days until they release it for trading, and if you want to give up, you have to wait a week to withdraw the money. To trade in Futures and CFDs, you have to take a test. They charged a $2 commission just to open a trade of 0.01 in EURUSD, and they charge for real data in Futures markets. It was my worst experience with a broker. The platform is not intuitive.

Good program for intermediate and advanced day traders, but tons of frustration and several days of delay upon setup. The authentication codes needed to fund large amounts of money require an authentication code that doesn't always send, leaving you stuck. Contacting human support is difficult to get to, and when you get there, they say to wait up to 48 hours for a response. Even that didn't work, though. When trying to submit a ticket they just gave me another error message. Once I got it working I could see why day traders like this program, but you'll need a separate charting platform, and the customer service is so negligent it's unreal.

I’ve been trading with Interactive Brokers for some time, and they consistently outperform the competition. If you are serious about the U.S. markets, this is the place to be. Why I highly recommend them: Unbeatable Costs: The commission rates are among the lowest in the industry, and the price improvement on order execution is noticeable. Full Market Access: Their system handles pre-market and after-hours trading flawlessly. Having the ability to trade from 4:00 AM to 8:00 PM ET is a game-changer. Pro-Level Platform: The Trader Workstation (TWS) and the mobile app are incredibly powerful, stable, and packed with advanced tools. Top-Tier Support: Whenever I’ve needed help, their support team has been available and highly competent. They provide professional answers quickly, which is crucial when money is on the line. The perfect broker for anyone who wants low costs and high-performance tools.

I am disappointed with the identification and application process at Interactive Brokers, which I found to be unclear, inconsistent, and lacking in transparency, including several questions that seemed overly intrusive or unfair. My wife and I submitted all the requested documents, which are valid and officially recognized by the relevant authorities. However, some were rejected on the grounds that "no address is present," despite these documents—such as our regular EU-Schengen residence cards issued by Austrian authorities—being explicitly listed as acceptable on their own guidelines. Initially, the GPS tracking verification was approved, but our application was ultimately rejected without any detailed explanation provided.Additionally, as proof of our bank account, I transferred a small amount (2€) from my account as instructed. Regrettably, Interactive Brokers has informed us that they cannot refund this without charging an 8€ fee, which feels disproportionate—especially given their emphasis on offering low fees overall. While we will manage without their services, I would advise potential customers to carefully consider these aspects before proceeding with Interactive Brokers.

Phone help was excellent. Getting to that help was not. The prompts to get to a live person did not work. Kept going into a loop. After 10 attempts I finally got a live person. The representative was excellent in solving the problems I was having with the app. Online directions for the App. did not match what I was seeing on the iPhone. Took too much time from my day.

The platform is good but beware of their call center, they are not at all helpful and won't listen to you. The training of the call center needs to be better. you lodged complaint and they ignored it. you were going nowhere fast. Pure arrogances, treating their clients badly and do not care about them.

I have been using Interactive Brokers for the past 4 years as a non-US resident, and it has been a reliable platform for investing in US and international stocks. I have not faced any issues so far, and I highly recommend it for both long-term investors and active traders.

nteractive is by far the worst trading platform I have ever used. From login to actual trading, the entire user experience is unbelievably poorly designed. The login process alone is a nightmare. I constantly get locked out and am told to use some kind of response code that supposedly is generated on another device — except that there is nothing on that other device. Then I’m asked for a challenge code, with absolutely no indication of where this code is supposed to appear. As a result, the login process simply cannot be completed, and the only option left is to contact customer support. This happens far too often and is completely unacceptable for a financial platform. Trading is even worse. When placing trades, the system repeatedly tells me that my price input is incorrect — regardless of whether I select market price or manually enter a limit price. The platform constantly rejects valid orders without clear explanations. Options trading is especially problematic. Orders frequently fail or cannot be completed for no obvious reason, making it impossible to trade reliably when timing actually matters. Overall, this platform is extremely frustrating, unreliable, and poorly designed. For a broker of this size, the user experience is shockingly bad. I would not recommend Interactive to anyone who values stability, clarity, or basic functionality in a trading platform.

Not great to trade on from the UK. The website often logs you out after barely a minute or two and you have to keep logging back on. Where you are on it the website is very slow, not a good platform for in-day trading due to this. Time consuming and cannot action buy/sell's the moment you want to.

The account opening process was slow and overly complicated, with a confusing interface and endless forms. After waiting and completing everything, my application was rejected without any clear explanation, just a generic compliance message. What really annoyed me is that after rejecting the account, it still takes several days to get your own money back, and they may even charge fees for returning it. That feels unfair and unprofessional. Overall, poor communication, no transparency, and a very unfriendly onboarding experience. Definitely not what I expected from a “professional” broker.

I deposited $11,000 into my account 9 days ago . They stated I had to wire money into the account to help push along getting the account approved. The next day my application was rejected . 9 days later I still have not gotten my money back . This is a Nightmare. They will not send me back my money . I don’t know how to get my money back !? They put me on hold for 20-30 mins at a time . Customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. I’m begging to think they are going to keep the $11,000 I wired into an account that was never approved and closed. Please can some one help me ? Is this a Scam ? How do I get my money back back ?!

IBKR is very cheap with USA shares. Also converting USD to Euro and visa versa they charge a $3 “flat rate”. Compare that with others who charge upto 0,25% (!!!). However it’s an American broker. I had multiple problems, not being able to trade European ETF’s because missing KID. Ofcourse a KID is available and with other brokers you can trade in them but with IBKR it takes a very long time showing they’re a pure USA shares broker. Be aware that this problem also affect brokers that use the IBKR platform! 2025/06/02 11:51:52 Dear Mr., The addition of the KID has been requested from our provider. It will be available in the next few days. Kind regards, IBKR Client Services 2025/06/11 still can’t trade because missing KID/PRIIP This product requires a KID in English or in a language approved for your country. Retail clients can trade packaged retail products only if an appropriate KID is available. 2026/06/11 Unfortunately, only the German KID was added by the provider. We have requested for the English version which should be available shortly. Apologies for the inconvenience caused. Kind regards, IBKR Client Services 05-01-2026 Sad to say but IBKR has not done anything about the KID trading problems. Can’t trade a new European ETF because of missing KID. It’s available for a while ofcourse and I can trade in it with other European brokers. Below IBKR’s response (after I did their job and pointed out where to find the KID) I can finally trade in the etf! 2026/01/09 05:06:54 Thank you for contacting Interactive Brokers Customer Service. We have checked the KID with the internal department. The trading should be available. IBKR promises a lot of trading possibilities unfortunately not always true for European investors. Apparently ibkr cannot go on the internet, go to the ETF providers website and get the kid where it is readily available!

They are famous for their sky high margin requirements. They won't even let you trade Nasdaq Futures without having 35k+ on your account. Doesn't make sense at all. Plus, they have lots of hidden requirements for futures trading. They are not transparent at all. They hide the margin requirements for future trading. It is something separate from what you see in your account balance. Interactive Brokers can close your position any time at a very bad price. In this sense, they are literally scammers. I will withdraw all my money from and never ever use IB again. I am also telling all my fellow investors and traders how bad they are. Stay away from them!

I like the features and wide range of markets supported by IBKR. However, for money transfer into IBKR for investment, it is a nightmare. The current requirement on clients to use Telegraphic Transfer (Wire) to fund their account is both time-consuming and costly. For example, I have to TT to USA for depositing USD into my account in order to buy USD assets. This is not convenient for clients living outside of USA. Even though I have USD on hand and want to deposit it into the account without needing to convert my local currency into USD, I don't have a convenient and low cost means to do it. Using TT (Wire) to deposit could involve multiple charges from the banks e.g. TT charges from my own bank, Correspondent Bank charges for some intermediary bank. If I withdraw fund from IBKR with currencies other than my local currency, I would also need to pay my bank for Correspondent Bank charge because IBKR send me through Wire and most banks would charge for Correspondent Bank charge or even incoming remittance charges for funds coming from wire (TT). I would strongly recommend IBKR to open accounts of different currencies in a supporting country to facilitate local transfer of various currencies instead of requiring overseas transfers. At least to support common currency like USD in local banks (instead of requiring to wire to USA). Moreover, in terms of processing time, using wire transfer could also take longer time than local transfer. I might have missed a good chance of investment when my deposit takes a longer time to arrive at my account.

I've been trading Stocks, Complex Options and Futures for over 50 years. If the Trader Workstation features are over kill for an experienced trader like me, I can only imagine how overwhelming it must be for a trader with limited experience. The platform is so overly complicated even the Customer Service Reps / Technical Reps have a hard time understanding the trader's needs versus what, and how it offers. The company itself is in the nickeling and diming business, Even the most basic data feeds cost you money. More than one ACH transfer out cost you money. They put excessive holds on ACH transfers in (they basically use your cash for 4-5 days before they remove their hold). Good luck trying to find the customer service number on the platform or the website. When you finally call in, wait times are long and product knowledge is sketchy. STAY AWAY

Whenever there's trouble (cant access trade opportunities, etc.) support is never there. It's even worse talking to foreigners on the phone, unfriendly and unhelpful.
