Summary
Interactive Brokers (IBKR) receives mixed feedback from users. Many appreciate its low and transparent fees, wide range of investment options, advanced trading tools, reliable platforms, and competitive prices across global markets. The platform is considered trustworthy and well-suited for experienced investors due to its depth and customization options, though some find it complex and reports confusing at first. Positive comments highlight efficient order execution, good returns on accounts, and a convenient mobile app. However, numerous clients criticize the poor and unresponsive customer service, long waiting times for account permissions or withdrawals, and occasional account blocks without clear communication. Some users also note technical issues with the website and login process. Overall, IBKR is praised for its robust trading capabilities and pricing but is often faulted for inconsistent and inaccessible support.

IBKR is very cheap with USA shares. Also converting USD to Euro and visa versa they charge a $3 “flat rate”. Compare that with others who charge upto 0,25% (!!!). However it’s an American broker. I had multiple problems, not being able to trade European ETF’s because missing KID. Ofcourse a KID is available and with other brokers you can trade in them but with IBKR it takes a very long time showing they’re a pure USA shares broker. Be aware that this problem also affect brokers that use the IBKR platform! 2025/06/02 11:51:52 Dear Mr., The addition of the KID has been requested from our provider. It will be available in the next few days. Kind regards, IBKR Client Services 2025/06/11 still can’t trade because missing KID/PRIIP This product requires a KID in English or in a language approved for your country. Retail clients can trade packaged retail products only if an appropriate KID is available. 2026/06/11 Unfortunately, only the German KID was added by the provider. We have requested for the English version which should be available shortly. Apologies for the inconvenience caused. Kind regards, IBKR Client Services 05-01-2026 Sad to say but IBKR has not done anything about the KID trading problems. Can’t trade a new European ETF because of missing KID. It’s available for a while ofcourse and I can trade in it with other European brokers. Below IBKR’s response (after I did their job and pointed out where to find the KID) I can finally trade in the etf! 2026/01/09 05:06:54 Thank you for contacting Interactive Brokers Customer Service. We have checked the KID with the internal department. The trading should be available. IBKR promises a lot of trading possibilities unfortunately not always true for European investors. Apparently ibkr cannot go on the internet, go to the ETF providers website and get the kid where it is readily available!

frustrating to have to create an account just for looking into what stocks they have available. there should be a list available.

They are famous for their sky high margin requirements. They won't even let you trade Nasdaq Futures without having 35k+ on your account. Doesn't make sense at all. Plus, they have lots of hidden requirements for futures trading. They are not transparent at all. They hide the margin requirements for future trading. It is something separate from what you see in your account balance. Interactive Brokers can close your position any time at a very bad price. In this sense, they are literally scammers. I will withdraw all my money from and never ever use IB again. I am also telling all my fellow investors and traders how bad they are. Stay away from them!

I like the features and wide range of markets supported by IBKR. However, for money transfer into IBKR for investment, it is a nightmare. The current requirement on clients to use Telegraphic Transfer (Wire) to fund their account is both time-consuming and costly. For example, I have to TT to USA for depositing USD into my account in order to buy USD assets. This is not convenient for clients living outside of USA. Even though I have USD on hand and want to deposit it into the account without needing to convert my local currency into USD, I don't have a convenient and low cost means to do it. Using TT (Wire) to deposit could involve multiple charges from the banks e.g. TT charges from my own bank, Correspondent Bank charges for some intermediary bank. If I withdraw fund from IBKR with currencies other than my local currency, I would also need to pay my bank for Correspondent Bank charge because IBKR send me through Wire and most banks would charge for Correspondent Bank charge or even incoming remittance charges for funds coming from wire (TT). I would strongly recommend IBKR to open accounts of different currencies in a supporting country to facilitate local transfer of various currencies instead of requiring overseas transfers. At least to support common currency like USD in local banks (instead of requiring to wire to USA). Moreover, in terms of processing time, using wire transfer could also take longer time than local transfer. I might have missed a good chance of investment when my deposit takes a longer time to arrive at my account.

I've been trading Stocks, Complex Options and Futures for over 50 years. If the Trader Workstation features are over kill for an experienced trader like me, I can only imagine how overwhelming it must be for a trader with limited experience. The platform is so overly complicated even the Customer Service Reps / Technical Reps have a hard time understanding the trader's needs versus what, and how it offers. The company itself is in the nickeling and diming business, Even the most basic data feeds cost you money. More than one ACH transfer out cost you money. They put excessive holds on ACH transfers in (they basically use your cash for 4-5 days before they remove their hold). Good luck trying to find the customer service number on the platform or the website. When you finally call in, wait times are long and product knowledge is sketchy. STAY AWAY

Whenever there's trouble (cant access trade opportunities, etc.) support is never there. It's even worse talking to foreigners on the phone, unfriendly and unhelpful.

A nightmare to use. A slap in the face of non user-friendlyness. Support is joke. I tranfered a smaller amount, couldnt find regular ETFs without hazzle. No mission impossible trying to withdraw my saldo. They keep giving me wrong IBAN bank number from a town 30km away... Stay away from this hellhole of a site.

The complete package: get interest on money, invest in anything, anywhere from forex to crypto to equities. Lots of extra like stock loan programs and earn about 3.6% on funds held. Professional charting.

Terrible customer support. If you don't mind being left in the lurch whenever a problem exists, then sign up to their service. There is a phone number for them but absolutely NO WAY to get through to them as the call tree loops you round. So if in your trading, you have an urgent issue, that you need to discuss or you may lose money etc - then good luck to you. There is no way at all that you can get any support from them. They used to have an excellent customer support and answer within a few calls with knowledgeable and friendly people. They have taken all that away now and if you need help, you might as well ask your grandma what to do. IBKR are of no help whatsoever. If there is a 0 star I would give it. And to think that I used to give them a 5 star rating.

Awful broker for retail day trading. Locked me in a day trade as the price was falling, forcing a huge loss on me, to do a compliance review designed for company affiliates and restricted shares that didn’t apply to me, especially as I bought the shares I was trading though them off the back of news surfaced in their platform and they enforced it well before the threshold where the rule actually applies (even if it did apply to me which it didn’t) with no warning. Avoid at all costs. It’s genuinely shocking.

I created an IBKR custodial account for my son, unfortunately, after setting up the account and logging on to the website the system immediately logs me out for inactivity; after 6 calls to the company, trying multiple suggested solutions I cannot log-in and fund the account. Tech people at IBKR seem very confused, they created a ticket to solve the problem but days later no response. They told me "we are aware of the problem and we are working to fix it, we are talking to our progrmmers."After hearing there ads for years and years and years, they are not able to execute on a simple account opening. I work in the industry and have opened many schwab and fidelity accounts, never had an issue opening up an account. Customer service appears to be mostly with overseas agents, technical people have no solutions for me, and no responses to the service tickets created days ago. why do they waste sos much time running ads for to ge tnew accounts that I guess they don't even want to have, 6 calls to customer service with no repair of the situation is laughable.

The interface is extremely poor. For a company of this size and reputation, it’s disappointing to see such a low-quality website. It feels more like a student developer’s project than a platform built by one of the world’s largest brokerage firms. Even basic form validation is handled badly — input errors are not shown to the user, forcing me to inspect the browser console just to understand what went wrong. If it weren’t for the company’s well-known name, the overall experience would seriously raise concerns about legitimacy.

There's lot of good stuff and free resources deposits and withdrawals all fine so far.. been 3 years now. However, platform instability far too common. Often cannot log in. Plus interface far more complex than it needs to be. I need my own portfolio tracker just to see which are my biggest positions as IBKR cannot put all my positions in the same currency and list them! Crazy 2bh.

The support team is very responsive and addresses every question via message. If they can’t resolve an issue immediately, they make sure to route it to the right department. For my last request regarding a non-responsive button in their trading app, they escalated the case to the dev team, and the problem was fixed in the very next app update.

Interactive Brokers is known for low commissions, but my recent experience reveals a systemic flaw that is dangerous for Canadian investors. Without any warning, IBKR liquidated assets in my TFSA (CELI) account simply because they became micro-caps or fractional shares after a split. Unlike other brokers, IBKR does not allow "in-stocks" transfers to Margin accounts to protect the investor, nor do they have an alert system for these events. The result: forced liquidation at the worst possible time and a massive loss of capital. If you hold a registered account with them, beware: your portfolio could be liquidated tomorrow without you receiving a single email.

I have accounts with multiple brokerages (Schwab, Fidelity) and recently opened an account with IBKR to add crypto exposure. IBKR interested me for crypto as I wanted to incorporate Bitcoin as a longer term position for may overall portfolio and they have the lowest trading fees among the major brokerage houses. First, expect to wait about 5 business days for your funding transfer to show up at IBKR. For ANY of my other brokerages or bank accounts, the most you will wait will be 2-3 business days. If you have any interest in adding crypto to your overall trading, avoid IBKR. IBKR will prohibit you from having ANY asset represent more than 30% of your account even if you are strictly trading using cash (i.e., no margin trading). If you submit any trading request to increase your position above 30%, the trade will be rejected. Second, IBKR sent me a “nasty gram” indicating that they provide crypto trading as a secondary benefit to their stock and bond customers and that the account cannot be used primarily for crypto purchases. That isn’t something IBKR will tell you when you open an account. After reaching the 30% portfolio limit with Bitcoin, I had enough and decided to withdraw my BTC and move it to another provider. I encountered multiple issues with Paxos (the crypto holder for IBKR). I had to call IBKR multiple times to solve the issue and technical support told me there were KNOWN issues with crypto transfers, that these issues had been open for months, and that there was no ETA in sight to get them resolved. I had finally had enough and sold all my positions and immediate submitted a transfer of my cash to another brokerage. IBKR has conveyed it will take at least 7 business days before the funds will be available even though the settlement should be 1 day from my sell. Just avoid IBKR altogether if you expect to acquire crypto or expect any sort of technical or customer support.

I was interested in buying some OTC socks and wanted to see if I will be able to buy them though their platform, however, you can only contact their support if you create an account with them first, which I found a little cumbersome - why create an account if there is a 50/50 chance to use or not use them in the end. I think that access to this kind of information either via support or not should be available on their website.

User interface is highly complicated. Difficult to transparently see your movements and fees. Fees information is a bit hidden. Mobile app is a crap. Another note is to withdraw your money (SEPA) you need to wait 3 days till funds are settled, to then encounter that the actual transfer date will be in a future because the balance was not settled again, so be prepared to wait up to 1 week to get your funds. Support and document processing is neither quick, a couple of days if you are lucky.

I give this company one star. This company periodically change log in system, it requests recently log in with activation 2FA authentication, if you do not click the activate, you won't be able to log on the website. I clicked to activate today, but it locked up my account. I won't be able to trade on the day, I lost the opportunity to get out the position. And there is NO alive customer service. I tried whole day to the customers service line, it could not get through. I started to worry if they tried to hold people's wealth this way - my personal guessing? I am changing to other brokerage companies.....
