Eternal Channel Breakout Review

Overview
Eternal Channel Breakout is a MetaTrader 5 Expert Advisor that looks for price to close beyond a Donchian channel. Its listed design combines one-position-at-a-time trading with an ATR-based initial stop, a trailing exit and position sizing based on a chosen percentage of account balance. The product listing describes configurable controls, but does not establish that the EA is profitable or suitable for a particular account.
The MQL5 listing shows a price of $30 and version 1.0 in the supplied product details. Price and listing information can change, so check the current page before making a purchase. View the MQL5 product listing.
How the strategy works
At the close of each bar, the EA checks whether price has moved above the upper or below the lower edge of its configured Donchian channel. A qualifying close can trigger a long or short position. If price remains inside the channel, the EA stays flat. The channel length is adjustable, and the listing says the defaults were developed and parameterised on BTCUSD H1.
That setup is a straightforward breakout approach: it seeks movement beyond a recent price range rather than trading within it. Donchian channels describe a range based on recent highs and lows; they do not indicate whether a breakout will continue. Investopedia’s overview of Donchian channels provides general background on the indicator, not a review or test of this EA.
Exits and position sizing
Each position is opened with a stop set at a configurable multiple of ATR from the entry. ATR measures volatility, so the stop distance changes with recent price movement; it does not predict direction. Once a position reaches the configured threshold, the EA can trail the stop at an ATR-based distance. The stop is designed to move only in the direction that reduces risk. There is no fixed take-profit target: the trailing stop is the stated exit mechanism.
The EA calculates lot size from stop distance and a percentage of account balance. One important caveat in the listing is its default handling of calculated lots below the broker’s minimum: it can use the minimum lot instead. In that case, the actual amount at risk may exceed the configured percentage. The listing says this fallback can be disabled, in which case the EA will not trade when the calculated lot is too small. ATR-based sizing still depends on broker contract specifications, tick values and execution conditions. Investopedia’s explanation of ATR is useful context for the volatility measure, but does not validate this product’s position sizing.
Controls and operating details
Entries and trailing-stop adjustments are evaluated at bar close. A stop already placed with the broker can be triggered intrabar, but the EA itself does not react to every mid-bar price change. This can make its rules easier to reproduce in a bar-based test, while still leaving live execution exposed to gaps, slippage and broker-specific conditions.
Optional account limits include a peak-balance drawdown limit, a daily loss limit and a daily profit target. According to the listing, all are off by default and use realised balance rather than floating equity. Reaching a limit stops new entries; it should not be read as a guarantee that an open trade’s loss is capped at that limit. Optional EMA trend and Efficiency Ratio filters are also off by default. A re-entry cooldown, spread limit and other strategy settings are configurable.
The product page says the EA can be applied to any symbol and timeframe, but its defaults reflect BTCUSD H1. That broad compatibility is not evidence that one configuration will behave well across instruments. The EA also waits for enough history to calculate its channel and ATR; the listing gives 118 bars for the default settings. MetaTrader’s testing documentation explains the platform’s Strategy Tester, but a backtest remains dependent on its data, settings and execution assumptions. Strengths and trade-offs
- Clear, bounded strategy description: channel-breakout entries, an attached initial stop and a trailing exit are described in the listing.
- No loss-recovery mechanism described: the product page says it does not use a grid, martingale or averaging down, and limits the system to one position at a time.
- Several settings are configurable: channel and ATR parameters, risk percentage, spread limit and cooldown are among the stated inputs.
- Breakout systems can struggle in ranges: repeated false breaks may lead to consecutive losses. The product page itself identifies this as an expected feature of the approach.
- Defaults need scrutiny: BTCUSD H1 settings may not transfer appropriately to another symbol, timeframe or broker.
- Risk settings are not a complete safety net: optional account-level limits are disabled by default and, as described, are based on realised balance rather than floating equity.
Reviews and public information
Public third-party information about this specific EA appears limited in the sources reviewed. The supplied MQL5 listing details include product information and review and comment sections, but do not provide independent evidence of live performance. We found no basis here to treat backtests, product descriptions or any results not independently documented as verified live trading.
That limited public record makes it especially important to assess the rules rather than rely on promotional claims. A strategy tester run using the intended broker’s data can help examine behaviour, but it cannot guarantee future results. Demo testing can also reveal practical issues such as minimum lot handling, spread sensitivity and stop execution.
Verdict
Eternal Channel Breakout presents a comparatively understandable breakout design, with a defined initial stop, ATR trailing exit and configurable risk controls. Its main trade-off is inherent to breakout trading: false breaks and sideways markets can produce losing trades, while a trailing-only exit offers no predetermined take-profit level. The minimum-lot fallback and balance-based account limits deserve particular attention when reviewing settings.
This is a configurable EA rather than an install-and-forget strategy. Before considering live use, inspect its inputs, test it on the intended symbol and broker, and check whether the minimum-lot behaviour is compatible with the account. Nothing in the available product information establishes future profitability or verified live performance.
